mottainai
" Every little thing has a soul...
Mottainai is an ancient Buddhist philosophy that carries with it metaphysical, ethical, and aesthetic connotations. The term expresses a feeling of regret at wasting the intrinsic value of a resource or object, referring to both physical waste and to wasteful action. As a concept, mottainai reflects the feeling that arises from the awareness of both the interdependence and impermanence of all things.”

event SMART FASHION = SLOW FASHION | MADRID
23-30 JANUARY 2018
venue EL PARACAIDISTA
organised by THE CIRCULAR PROJECT
This garment was built by human hands for the human body...
It is the result of a spontaneous process, in conversation and interaction with a 46-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy. The measurements of each person represent one half of the fabric’s width. Zero-waste pattern techniques, without subtraction, were employed.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Goal 5: Gender Equality | “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.”
This garment is representing the gender equality through six main qualities:
· gender neutrality · would be reflected through a unisex coat dress to erase any differentiation
· timeless design · would be restricted to no particular time so it is eternal
· sustainability · would be reflected through an eco-friendly textile, respectful with the environment
· safety · a celebration of the human body allows freedom from the occurrence or risk of injury
· comfort · expressed as a right and as a solution, showing concern for someone suffering
· creativity · every person exists as the only one of her/his kind, therefore, originality is required
